Black Dog - House On Briar Ridge by dustycrosley Black Dog - House On Briar Ridge by dustycrosley
The second piece in the Black Dog series. Writing is coming along great for this project and there will be more art very, very soon.

Black Dog is a twisted tale of horror, witchcraft and macabre that will be written by a lifelong best friend of mine Terry Lambert and illustrated by yours truly.

The goal is to take this to print in graphic novel format in 2016.

I love it!  Do you use stock images in these to paint in some texture or you paint it all by hand?

Thanks! My process is to sketch out the comp in greyscale to adjust tones and values. Then I start adding photos and begin seaming everything together with paint. Its about a 50/50 split on this one between paint and photos.

Nice, I still have issues with putting real photo stock into pictures at least so seamlessly like you did. It goes together so well. I guess practice makes perfect lol.

Yep it sure does. Here is a tip for photobashing..... get your main photo base plate color adjusted to your liking. Then when you start adding additional photo layers go to: Image>Adjustments>Match Color.... this works wonders when trying to unify the color palette of all your photo layers and it is extremely fast and effective.

The rest is just making sure to erase all your seam lines with a big soft round brush and then painting into the photo textures (I usually use a standard chalk brush) to match the pixel density of the photos.

Hope that helps a bit. :)

Yea I was told from another artist giving me advice that my blending is off in my environments when I tried.  So thank you for the advice.  I will try with another landscape soon and see how it turns out.  I am better with people and creatures than landscapes, so I want to get better lol :)
